NBA expansion appears increasingly likely. The league is expected to add two teams, with Las Vegas and Seattle identified as probable locations.
If this expansion moves forward, the league would require one existing team to move from the Western Conference to the Eastern Conference. Both new franchises would be located in the West.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are considered the most likely candidate for conference realignment, which is a significant development for the nba landscape.
According to Brett Siegel’s report on Wednesday, nba leaders are closely monitoring the situation.
The two primary candidates for realignment are the Timberwolves and the Memphis Grizzlies. Both teams have nba playoff experience.
A logical divisional alignment for the Timberwolves would include geographically proximate teams such as the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons, and Milwaukee Bucks.
The Timberwolves have never competed in the Eastern Conference. They joined the Western Conference during their own nba expansion.
Currently, a transition from the Western Conference could present new competitive opportunities. This conference includes strong nba teams such as Oklahoma City and San Antonio.
Anthony Edwards may have increased opportunities to reach the highly coveted nba Finals if he spends part of his prime competing in the Eastern Conference.
