The UFC is planning a massive public viewing experience for its historic White House event. UFC CEO Dana White announced that 85,000 free tickets will be made available to fans for an outdoor watch party at The Ellipse in Washington, D.C., which sits directly south of the White House.
The fights themselves will take place on the South Lawn of the White House, with the live broadcast shown to fans gathered nearby. White revealed that the UFC will distribute tens of thousands of free tickets for the public viewing experience. “We’re going to be ticketing 85,000 people in the Ellipse and the tickets are free.” The promotion plans to announce soon how fans can claim the tickets, but White encouraged people to start planning trips to Washington, D.C. for the historic night.
Headline Fight: Topuria vs. Gaethje
The event will be headlined by a lightweight title unification bout between:
-
Ilia Topuria – undisputed lightweight champion
-
Justin Gaethje – interim champion
The undefeated Topuria will look to extend his run after knocking out several former champions. While Gaethje aims to capture the undisputed belt for the first time.
Pereira Chasing Historic Third Belt
The co-main event features one of the biggest names in the sport. Former two-division champion Alex Pereira will attempt to win a third UFC title in a third division when he faces heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight championship. If successful, Pereira would become one of the few fighters in UFC history to hold titles in three weight classes.
The card has been dubbed “Freedom Fights 250,” celebrating the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. The event also falls on June 14, which happens to be the 80th birthday of President Donald Trump, adding another layer of attention to the already historic show.
