The Las Vegas Aces (16-14) took their win streak on the road to the Bay Area to take on the Golden State Valkyries (14-15) on Wednesday night.
In the first quarter, the Aces got off to a quick start and an early lead. To end the first quarter, Aces center A’ja Wilson reached her 500th block of her career. Wilson is now the 10th player in WNBA history to reach 500 career blocks.
Wilson said about the milestone “A good block can change the momentum of the game. It’s definitely an aspect of my game that I love the most.”
In the post-game presser, A’ja Wilson revealed she had a black, now green eye that she got during the Minnesota game.
Headed into the second quarter, with under 9 minutes left in the half, the Valkyries took a 21-16 lead over the Aces. Jackie Young and A’ja Wilson both connected in the paint to bring the Aces back to tie the Valkyries 27-27 with 4:49 left in the first half.
With 12.4 seconds left in the half, Jewell Loyd sunk a three-pointer in the corner to give the Aces a 43-38 lead over the Valkyries.
In the third quarter, the Valkyries attempted to go on a run. Both teams tied twice. The Aces began pulling away. Las Vegas exhibited great ball movement, getting everybody on the floor involved.
With 3:29 left in the third quarter, the Aces led the Valkyries 56-50. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Aces held on to a 10-point lead.
Jewell Loyd put up a monster three-pointer to give the Aces a 72-65 lead with 3:31 to go in the fourth quarter.
With this win, the Aces extend their win streak to two game with a 78-72 win over Golden State.
A’ja Wilson said, “My biggest things is just making sure we can stack wins the right way. When it comes to playoff seeding, I threw that out.”
The Aces head home for three-game homestand, starting on Friday night against Seattle.
