The Texas Rangers will welcome the Athletics to Globe Life Field on Tuesday. The first pitch will be at 5:05 p.m. PST. After taking the opener of the series, the Rangers will hand the ball to ace Jacob deGrom, while the A’s will counter with J.T. Ginn.
This matchup presents a clear pitching advantage for the Rangers.
Although the Athletics have displayed flashes of offense this season, they’ll face a tough challenge against deGrom, who has reestablished himself as one of baseball’s top pitchers after overcoming last year’s injury issues.
Pitching Matchup
Jacob deGrom has been excellent to start 2025, recording a 2.32 ERA over 112.1 innings.
While his strikeout rate is down from his prime, he’s found success pitching to contact, though run support from the Rangers has been inconsistent. This points to value on the under for this matchup.
JT Ginn will start for the Athletics, making his 12th appearance and fifth start.
The 26-year-old righty doesn’t have much MLB experience but could be effective in a multi-inning role. Despite some recent improvement, the Rangers’ offense has struggled overall, suggesting Tuesday’s game could be low-scoring.
The Athletics have taken six of the last ten head-to-head matchups, including five of the past seven, and currently lead the season series 5-3.
However, I’m backing the Rangers to win and cover the run line in this game, thanks largely to Jacob deGrom.
The future Hall of Famer has been outstanding this season, delivering quality starts in seven of his last eight outings, and I don’t see the A’s lineup posing much of a threat.
DeGrom has limited the A’s to just two runs over 11.1 innings in two starts against them this year. Meanwhile, J.T. Ginn, who started the year in the rotation before moving to the bullpen, returns to start for the A’s.
He gave up three runs in 3.2 innings against Texas earlier this season and is likely to face more difficulty this time.
