The Golden State Warriors will aim to extend their winning streak to four games as they head to Los Angeles to face the Lakers on Thursday. With the Warriors priced as the underdog, I’m leaning toward them for this matchup.
Recently, Golden State has secured victories against New Orleans, San Antonio, and Memphis. Since acquiring Jimmy Butler from Miami, the Warriors have an impressive 18-2 record when he plays.
Butler has eased the burden on Stephen Curry, who continues to shine on the court. In the last game against Memphis, Curry exploded for 52 points, along with 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 5 steals, leading the team to a 134-125 win.
On the flip side, the Lakers are struggling, with a record of 3-4 over their last seven games and 6-8 in the past 14.
LeBron James is set to play despite dealing with a groin issue, but he hasn’t shown his usual form lately, scoring 17 points or fewer in three of his last four games.
The addition of Luka Doncic was significant, but the Lakers’ decision to trade Anthony Davis was partly based on acquiring big man Mark Williams from Charlotte. When that deal fell through, it left them with a mismatched roster.
While having two superstars is a positive, it’s not necessarily a winning formula in today’s game. With the Warriors performing at a high level, I believe they have a strong chance on Thursday. There’s value in taking Golden State as an underdog.
I like the Warriors to pull off the upset over the Lakers on Thursday. The Western Conference playoff race continues to shift.
