The Houston Rockets (48-26) will take on the Phoenix Suns (35-39) this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET at the PHX Arena.
The Rockets lead the season series 2-0 and are on a two-game winning streak, although they’ve failed to cover the spread in their last four games.
They recently defeated the Utah Jazz 121-110 as 13.5-point favorites, with Alperen Sengun scoring 33 points.
After losing 124-109 to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Suns are in 11th place in the Western Conference, one game behind the 10th-place Sacramento Kings for the final play-in spot.
Kevin Durant led the Suns with 23 points in that loss. According to ESPN’s Power Index, Phoenix has a 4.4% chance of making the playoffs.
Both teams have strong motivation this Sunday. The Rockets aim to hold off the third-place Denver Nuggets for the No. 2 seed, while the Suns risk jeopardizing their play-in chances with a defeat.
Since the Suns acquired Kevin Durant in February 2023, Houston has a record of 4-2 both straight up and against the spread when facing Phoenix.
The Rockets boast a deeper roster, with six players averaging at least 12.2 points per game. In contrast, with Bradley Beal sidelined, the Suns have only two players—Devin Booker and Durant—averaging over 10.4 points per game.
