Tom Brady has accomplished everything there is to do on the football field.
Brady’s exploits have been well-documented at this stage, and his resume is worthy of first-ballot entry into the Hall of Fame. Across 23 seasons with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brady has won seven Super Bowls, five Super Bowl MVPs, and three regular season MVP awards. He holds many of the NFL’s all-time records for quarterbacks, including passing yards (89,214), passing touchdowns (649), and regular season victories (251). With those gaudy numbers, it is no wonder Brady is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback to ever play the game of football.
All of this is why Brady’s next moves sent shockwaves throughout the NFL. Not only did Fox make the quarterback the highest-paid analyst in history, but Brady was also part of a group that made a bid for partial ownership of the Las Vegas Raiders. After months of back-and-forth with the league, the bid was approved in October, and Brady is a major player in the NFL once again.
In a conversation with Bryson DeChambeau on the professional golfer’s YouTube show Break 50, Brady revealed what made him so excited to have a stake in ownership of an NFL team.
“I get to be involved in the NFL for as long as I’m around, basically, because of ownership,” said Brady. Being a broadcaster has been amazing, but also knowing beyond that, I get to be involved in the sport I love for the rest of my life and try to impact the game in a positive way and call out what I like, what I don’t like.”
While being a part-owner of a team comes with restrictions on what Brady can and cannot do as a commentator, Brady believes his impact on the game will become much stronger in his current capacity.
How Brady’s legacy in ownership is ultimately defined is to be determined, but Brady’s impact on the Raiders will be felt as early as this coming offseason. Principal owner Mark Davis has already confirmed that Brady will have a say in decisions made regarding the Raiders, giving the former quarterback’s input serious weight going forward. With the Raiders facing question marks at quarterback and coach heading into this offseason, expect Brady to have ample opportunity to use his connections and implement his vision of the Silver and Black.
The on-field legacy of Brady as one of the most decorated athletes of all time is unquestionable. Now, it is time for him to make his impact in the front office, and it is clear that Brady is looking forward to the challenge.
