The United States is aiming for a fifth consecutive gold medal in men’s basketball. Their next challenge is a quarterfinal matchup against Brazil at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Team USA secured the top seed heading into the knockout rounds after going 3-0 in the group stage with a plus-64 point differential.
Brazil
The Brazilian basketball team is making only its third Olympic appearance, having last competed in the 2016 Rio Games.
Former NBA forward Bruno Caboclo had a standout performance in their recent victory, scoring 33 points and grabbing 17 rebounds.
Guards Marcelinho Huertas and Vitor Benite have been instrumental in the Brazilian basketball team’s success, making significant contributions in previous games.

Huertas scored 11 and 13 points, while Benite posted 17 and 19 points in the group-stage matches, showcasing their crucial role in the team’s performance.
Other players such as Yago dos Santos, Leo Meindl, and Cristiano Felicio have also delivered strong performances for Brazil in the Paris Games.
Their collective efforts and unity have been instrumental in the team’s success, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the players and resonating with the audience.
Team USA
The United States has a remarkable record in the Summer Olympics, having won a medal in each of the 19 Olympics they have participated in.
Since NBA players started competing in the Games in 1992, the US team has an impressive 61-4 record, winning 33 of their last 34 Olympic contests.
The US team made a strong start in the Paris group stage, leading all teams with a plus-64 point differential. They won their three games with an average margin of 21.3 points, showcasing their early dominance.

Six players scored in double digits throughout the group stage in each game, helping Team USA reach the century mark more times (three) than all the other teams combined (two).
Four Americans are averaging more than 10 points per game, with Anthony Edwards leading the squad at 16.7 points per game.
Kevin Durant, aiming to become the first player in Olympic history to win four gold medals in men’s basketball, has an average of 16 points. LeBron James is scoring 14.3 points per contest, and Devin Booker is contributing 10.3 points.
Edwards, Durant, and James have all scored over 20 points in a game in the Paris Games, with Durant and James achieving this feat against Serbia in the group-stage opener.
Brazil-Team USA Best Bet
The upcoming Olympic games for Team USA could pose a challenge, but the match against Brazil should be relatively straightforward.
Brazil suffered significant losses to both France and Germany, and it relied heavily on 3-point shooting to narrowly defeat Japan.
It’s fair to say that Brazil’s advancement was largely due to their group placement. Spain is considered the stronger team despite having a tougher draw.
Their point differential was only one point behind Brazil. Brazil’s roster only includes one current NBA player, Gui Santos, who is currently on a non-guaranteed deal with the Warriors. Overall, their talent pool seems to be lacking.
Team USA should cover this one with ease as well.
