Guard Anthony Edwards is another athletic two-way player who thrives on defensive challenges and is a dynamic scorer. The 22-year-old recorded 11 points, five rebounds, and one steal in his Olympic debut.
Additionally, Anthony Davis brings active defense to the frontcourt, using his length and basketball IQ to be a significant presence.
In 20 minutes against Serbia, Davis contributed seven points and eight rebounds, along with a team-high plus/minus of 28.
South Sudan
South Sudan, the world’s newest country since gaining independence in 2011, has been a pleasant surprise in this competition, defying expectations.
Despite being a 41.5-point underdog against the U.S. in an exhibition game on July 20, South Sudan narrowly lost 101-100. On Sunday, they started their Olympic journey on a high note, defeating Puerto Rico.

In that victory, four of their five starters scored in double figures. Guard Carlik Jones, a shifty playmaker in the backcourt, excelled in scoring off the dribble, leading the team with 19 points and six assists.
Guard Marial Shayok also impressed, showcasing his skills as a shot creator and ball handler. On July 28, he finished with 15 points and three rebounds.
South Sudan-Team USA Best Bet
The USA’s experimentation with their lineups in the first game may have ended, as they now clearly understand what South Sudan will bring to the table in the upcoming match.

Despite having won the previous game, Team USA feels a sense of revenge and a lack of seriousness about the last match, which provides additional motivation for the Team to perform well.
South Sudan’s strong performance against Puerto Rico in their first group stage match adds to the pressure, as a victory is crucial for the USA’s advancement in the tournament.
