CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Sierra Canyon continues to look every bit like one of the nation’s premier high school football teams. The Trailblazers improved to 5-0 Friday night with a convincing 42-10 victory over Pacifica, extending their winning streak to five games and handing the Tritons their first loss of the season.
Sierra Canyon entered the matchup ranked No. 6 nationally by MaxPreps, compared with Pacifica at No. 79, but the Tritons brought a 4-0 record and an offense that had been producing points at an impressive rate.
None of that mattered to the Trailblazers. Sierra Canyon controlled the game throughout all four quarters, combining an explosive offense with a defense that delivered perhaps the biggest statement of the night.
Sierra Canyon Defense Shuts Down Hot Pacifica Offense
Pacifica entered Friday averaging at least 31 points in each of its first four games. Against Sierra Canyon, the Tritons managed only 10. Sierra Canyon didn’t simply overwhelm an inferior offense. The Trailblazers shut down a Pacifica unit that had consistently moved the football and produced points during its undefeated start.
Holding that offense to 10 points demonstrated why Sierra Canyon remains among the country’s highest-ranked programs. Friday’s performance showed they can win with more than offensive firepower.
Will Jones Jr. Provides Bright Spot for Pacifica
Despite the difficult night, Pacifica wide receiver Will Jones Jr. continued to produce. Jones finished with 105 receiving yards and a touchdown, providing the Tritons with their biggest offensive highlight of the game.
The 105 receiving yards represented his highest total since at least the beginning of the 2025 season. But one strong individual performance wasn’t enough to overcome Sierra Canyon’s complete effort.
Pacifica falls to 4-1, ending an impressive undefeated run to begin the season. The loss doesn’t erase what the Tritons accomplished during their first four games, but it demonstrated the level required to compete with one of California’s elite programs.
Sierra Canyon Turns Its Attention to League Play
Things don’t get any less important for the Trailblazers. Sierra Canyon returns home Friday to face Loyola at 7 p.m. in its first conference game of the season. The Trailblazers will enter league play undefeated and carrying considerable momentum. At 5-0, Sierra Canyon has already established itself as one of Southern California’s teams to watch.
Now the challenge becomes maintaining that standard as the games become increasingly meaningful. Pacifica will also return home Friday, hosting Oaks Christian at 7 p.m. in its conference opener.
For the Tritons, the challenge will be responding to their first setback. For Sierra Canyon, it’s about continuing what has already become an impressive start.
Five games. Five victories. After dismantling an outmatched but undefeated Pacifica team 42-10, the Trailblazers don’t appear interested in slowing down anytime soon.
