Although the Athletics will not relocate to Las Vegas until 2028, the organization advanced its long-term plans this weekend. The draft is an important part of that process.
The A’s concluded the 2026 MLB Draft by selecting 20 players over two days, strengthening the organization’s talent pool as it prepares to move to Southern Nevada.
The draft began Saturday with the Athletics selecting outfielder Drew Burress as the 8th overall pick. Burress leads a class that includes 10 pitchers. In addition, there are six position players and four catchers.
On Day 2, the Athletics added depth by selecting left-handed pitcher Mason Edwards, right-hander Jacob Dudan, shortstop Roman Martin, and third baseman Alex Hernandez among their early picks.
Although these prospects will not appear in Las Vegas right away, the draft is an important step in shaping the organization’s future. Furthermore, several of this weekend’s selections may progress through the Athletics’ minor league system. They may compete for major league roster spots in the coming years.
