PHILADELPHIA — Jordan Walker added his name to baseball history Monday night. The St. Louis Cardinals slugger captured the 2026 MLB Home Run Derby championship in his first appearance, defeating hometown favorite Kyle Schwarber in the finals at Citizens Bank Park.

With the victory, Walker becomes the first player in Cardinals franchise history to win the Home Run Derby, adding another milestone to one of baseball’s most storied organizations.

Making his Derby debut, Walker showcased the immense power that has made him one of Major League Baseball’s brightest young stars.

After advancing through the opening rounds, Walker outslugged Philadelphia’s Schwarber in the championship round, spoiling what the hometown crowd hoped would be a memorable victory for the Phillies’ slugger. Instead, it was Walker who left Philadelphia holding the Derby trophy.

Schwarber Falls Short at Home

Schwarber thrilled the Citizens Bank Park faithful throughout the evening, advancing all the way to the finals after eliminating several of the night’s biggest power hitters.

Despite enjoying home-field support, Schwarber was unable to overcome Walker’s consistent power display in the championship round. While Walker claimed the title, Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero produced arguably the night’s most jaw-dropping swing.

Caminero crushed a towering 491-foot home run, the longest blast of the evening, before being eliminated in the semifinal round. His tape-measure shot immediately became one of the signature moments of the 2026 Derby.

Bryce Harper Eliminated Early

Philadelphia fans hoping for a dream showdown involving Bryce Harper were disappointed in the opening round. Harper was unable to surpass Schwarber’s first-round total of 10 home runs, ending his Derby run before advancing to the semifinals.

The hometown crowd quickly shifted its support to Schwarber, who carried Philadelphia’s hopes into the championship matchup.

Walker and Schwarber advanced to the finals after surviving a stacked semifinal field. Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras was eliminated by Schwarber, while Caminero’s impressive performance ended just short of the championship round.

Earlier in the evening, several notable sluggers were knocked out in the opening round, including:

  • Bryce Harper (Phillies)
  • Ben Rice (Yankees), who finished with the night’s lowest total at seven home runs
  • Munetaka Murakami (White Sox)
  • Jac Caglianone (Royals)

Cardinals Finally Have Their Derby Champion

For decades, the Cardinals have celebrated Hall of Famers, MVPs, and World Series champions.

Now, they finally have a Home Run Derby winner.

Jordan Walker’s victory not only earned him his first Derby crown but also ended a long-standing drought for one of baseball’s most successful franchises.

On a night filled with towering home runs and unforgettable moments, it was Walker who delivered the biggest swing of them all, cementing his place in Cardinals history as the club’s first-ever Home Run Derby champion.
