The International Gymnastics Federation awarded the hosting rights for the sport’s largest event to USA Gymnastics. The decision was confirmed during the recent meeting of the FIG Executive Committee in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. In fact, this marks a significant milestone for USA Gymnastics as an organization.
The World Gymnaestrada, first held in Amsterdam in 1953, occurs every four years. It gathers over 20,000 participants from more than 50 countries for non-competitive gymnastics displays. The 2031 event will be the first held outside Europe. The 19th edition will take place in Las Vegas, organized by USA Gymnastics.
World Gymnaestrada Plans
From 7 July to 13 July 2031, eight major Las Vegas venues will host group performances by gymnasts of all ages and abilities from around the world. These venues include the MGM Grand Garden Arena, T-Mobile Arena, Mandalay Bay Beach, Mystère Theatre, Michael Jackson ONE Theatre, Fremont Street, Westgate Las Vegas, and the Las Vegas Convention Center. This strictly non-competitive event features large-scale displays, some with hundreds of performers. Moreover, it celebrates gymnastics as a universal language of movement. Also, USA Gymnastics is committed to making the event a remarkable experience for all involved.
Las Vegas was selected from a shortlist that included Helsinki, Finland, which hosted the 2015 World Gymnaestrada. It also included Antwerp, Belgium, host of the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.
“Las Vegas is deeply honored to host the World Gymnaestrada in 2031, marking the first time this extraordinary event will be held outside Europe and bringing it to the United States,” said Janis Burke, Chief Sports Officer of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “It is a privilege to welcome the gymnastics world to Las Vegas, and we are confident that our city and our partners will deliver an exceptional experience for participants, their families, and visitors from around the world.” USA Gymnastics is expected to play a vital role in these preparations.
