Lance Stephenson Submits Michael Beasley In Wild Amateur MMA Showdown

Former NBA rivals Lance Stephenson and Michael Beasley traded basketballs for MMA gloves Saturday night in one of the strangest crossover fights of the year.

The former Los Angeles Lakers teammates squared off in an amateur MMA bout at the UFC Apex with UFC president Dana White reportedly in attendance.

The matchup added another chapter to the longtime friendly rivalry between the two former NBA players. Previously, Beasley defeated Stephenson in a one-on-one basketball game reportedly worth $300,000.

This time, however, Stephenson got revenge inside the cage. Despite limited MMA training from both men, the fight quickly turned into an entertaining brawl featuring:

  • Wild striking exchanges
  • Sloppy grappling scrambles
  • Exhaustion from both fighters

Stephenson surprisingly looked comfortable on the feet early, landing several clean punches against the bigger Beasley.

Beasley’s Guillotine Attempt Backfires

The fight eventually hit the ground, where Beasley attempted an ambitious guillotine choke from his back. However, the move appeared far beyond the technical abilities of two athletes with only days of MMA preparation.

Once Beasley burned out his arms attempting the submission, Stephenson reversed position and took control from the top. Stephenson then secured a rough variation of a rear-naked choke and squeezed until Beasley tapped out. While the technique may not have been textbook, it was enough to force the stoppage and hand Stephenson the victory.

Respect After The Fight

Despite the chaos inside the cage, both men appeared friendly immediately afterward. Rather than continuing any rivalry, the former NBA teammates embraced following the stoppage.

The celebrity crossover bout took place during a bizarre night of fights that also featured:

  • Johnny Manziel making his combat sports debut
  • Bob Menery competing
  • Ray J suffering a knockout loss earlier in the evening

As celebrity MMA continues growing in popularity, Stephenson and Beasley delivered exactly the kind of unpredictable spectacle fans expected.
