Ray J’s first MMA appearance ended in brutal fashion Saturday night after the entertainer suffered a knockout loss to internet personality Supa Hot Fire at Brand Risk 14.

Ray J, whose real name is William Norwood Jr., competed in an amateur MMA bout against Supa Hot Fire real name DeWayne Stevenson in one of the event’s featured fights.

The opening round actually began positively for Ray J. The musician aggressively rushed forward from the opening bell and appeared to outwork Stevenson early while Supa Hot Fire mostly circled the cage and avoided exchanges.

Commentators covering the event openly questioned Stevenson’s approach as he largely refused to engage during the first round. However, everything changed once the second round began.

After spending most of Round 1 playing defense, Stevenson suddenly turned up the pressure in the second.

He unleashed a series of combinations that quickly overwhelmed Ray J before landing the knockout less than 30 seconds into the round.

The stoppage left Norwood visibly frustrated afterward.

According to those in attendance, Ray J complained after the fight that:

  • He believed the matchup had a different understanding beforehand
  • Money had been lost because of the result
  • He “thought they had a plan” entering the bout

Celebrity Combat Sports Continue Growing

The unusual matchup is the latest example of entertainment personalities stepping into combat sports as crossover fights continue gaining popularity across:

  • Boxing
  • MMA
  • Influencer fight promotions

Brand Risk has become known for blending internet personalities, entertainers and amateur fighters into unconventional matchups that often go viral online.

For Ray J, though, the experience served as a harsh introduction to MMA competition.
