Las Vegas Lights FC earned a 1-1 draw with Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday night at Cashman Field, trading first-half goals and then grinding through a chippy second half that never found a winner.

The Lights moved to 1-2-3 and 5 points. Sacramento is 2-3-1 with 9 points.

Guillen jumps it early

Las Vegas struck first in the 20th minute when Aaron Guillen found the breakthrough, giving the Lights a 1-0 lead and a jolt of confidence at home. The opening goal rewarded a solid first 30 minutes that looked organized and direct, with the Lights getting into good areas without overplaying.

Kaye answers fast

Sacramento responded quickly and clinically. Mark-Anthony Kaye leveled the match in the 30th minute, making it 1-1 and resetting the night before it could tilt too far toward Las Vegas.

That goal also set the tone for the rest of the match. Both sides stayed compact, and the next clear chance never arrived with enough quality to change the score.

Second half turns into a card game

After halftime, the match tightened and the fouls piled up. Sacramento collected four yellow cards, while Las Vegas drew two as the midfield battle got more physical and transitions got messier.

The rhythm rarely settled, and both teams struggled to turn possession into clean looks inside the box. Still, Las Vegas kept its shape and avoided the late mistake that had burned it on the road.

Even numbers, even points

The stat line reflected the stalemate. Possession was nearly even, and the teams finished level in total shots at 9-9. Las Vegas held a 3-2 edge in shots on goal and also earned four corners to Sacramento’s five, but neither side produced a finishing touch after the early exchange.

Attendance was 3,081 at Cashman Field.

Standings snapshot

The draw kept Sacramento in the West’s top tier early, while Las Vegas stayed in the pack at 5 points, still searching for back-to-back wins but showing more stability at home.

Up next

The Lights head back on the road to face Oakland Roots at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22. Oakland comes in 2-1-1 with 7 points, and it has been a pain to put away. The Roots have lived in tight games, including 2-2 draws at Tampa Bay on April 11 and at Phoenix on March 21.

Las Vegas will try to carry the home momentum with it. The Lights sit 1-1-3 with 4 points, and the margins have been thin lately. Each of their last three matches ended by one goal or a draw.

This matchup has leaned the same way. Las Vegas and Oakland drew 2-2 at Cashman on Oct. 11, 2025, then played to a 0-0 draw in Oakland on March 29, 2025. Early numbers point to the main fight. Oakland has allowed four goals and sits plus-1, while Las Vegas has scored eight but allowed 10 for minus-2.

If the Lights start cleaner and finish a half-chance, points are there. Still, Oakland rarely gives them away.
