Unrivaled: Phantom Becomes Second Team To solidify A Playoff Spot

The Phantom currently have the second best record in the league. Sitting one loss behind the Laces who just clinched a playoff spot after achieving their eighth win of the season on Feb. 6. Following the Laces the Phantom just three days later on Feb. 9 solidified their spot with their eight win against the Vinyl 76-73. This team might be creeping up to be the favorites to win the championship this year.

The Phantom own the second-best record in the league, sitting one loss behind the Laces, who clinched a playoff spot with their eighth win Feb. 6. Three days later, on Feb. 9, the Phantom also secured their spot by picking up win No. 8, a 76-73 victory over the Vinyl.

Are The Phantom Unstoppable?

The Phantom have been a different breed lately, riding a four-game winning streak. Two of those wins have been double-digit blowouts. They are a nightmare matchup for defenses, with four of their six players averaging 10-plus points per game. On top of that, Kelsey Plum and Aliyah Boston both rank in the league’s top 10 in scoring average.

Undoubtedly, Plum leads the charge, averaging 22.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists while shooting 49.2 percent from the field. Meanwhile, Boston is not far behind, averaging a double-double with 19.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists, plus 2.0 blocks per game on 53.8 percent shooting.

And it does not stop there. Kiki Iriafen and Tiffany Hayes are also averaging 10-plus points. As a result, the Phantom look like the most unstoppable offense Unrivaled has seen so far.

All of that is already enough to dominate the league. But the Phantom may still have another gear once Las Vegas Aces guard Dana Evans returns to full speed. Evans is currently on a minutes restriction, and if she starts producing the way she does in the WNBA, the Phantom could become the championship favorite. If everything clicks, they could even be building a dynasty.

So far, Evans has played one game this season, debuting Feb. 1 against the Lunar Owls. She scored 5 points and grabbed 2 rebounds in seven minutes, helping the Phantom secure a 59-49 win.

Their next matchup comes Feb. 20 against the No. 1-seeded Laces, and it is a must-watch for anyone tracking the race for the top seed. The teams have met once already, on Jan. 16, when the Laces edged the Phantom by 1 point. This time, the Phantom will be hunting payback while building momentum heading into the playoffs.
