Ateba Gautier blasts Treston Vines in 101 seconds to keep streak alive

Ateba Gautier showed exactly why his name keeps popping up in middleweight prospect talk. The 23-year-old (9–1 MMA, 3–0 UFC) ran through short-notice newcomer Treston Vines (10–4, 0–1 UFC) on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena, scoring a first-round TKO at 1:41 of their UFC 320 prelim bout.

Vines tried to change levels early, but Gautier’s balance and hips denied the entry. In close quarters, Gautier went to work with short elbows that immediately rattled Vines. When Vines clung to the body lock, Gautier shucked him off, followed with heavy ground strikes, and forced the stoppage before the round’s midpoint.

Why it matters

The finish pushes Gautier to eight straight wins, with seven first-round knockouts in that run. With three UFC victories all emphatic he’s trending from “blue-chip prospect” toward bona fide top-15 contention. A step up against a ranked opponent next would make competitive and promotional sense. Gautier seems ready for the challenge. The middleweight division needs to be ready as the youngster is coming and he’s coming fast.

By the numbers

  • Result: Gautier def. Vines — TKO (strikes), R1, 1:41

  • Gautier: 9–1 overall, 3–0 UFC; 8-fight win streak; 7 first-round KOs in last 8

  • Vines: 10–4 overall, 0–1 UFC

  • Venue/Event: T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas — UFC 320

Given the quick turnaround and minimal damage, Gautier could target a late-year return against a fringe-ranked name an opportunity to prove his early finishing power carries against veteran durability. Either way, Saturday’s 101-second clinic sharpened the hype and tightened his timeline to relevance at 185.
