The Las Vegas Aces’ 17-game winning streak ended Tuesday as the Seattle Storm mounted a comeback, outscoring them 25-14 in the fourth quarter to steal Game 2.
Leading by four with 64 seconds left, the Aces fell as Seattle’s Skylar Diggins and Dominique Malonga combined for seven straight points to even the series.
After dominating Game 1, Las Vegas looked set to sweep into the semifinals before a fourth-quarter collapse. Though they shot a higher field goal percentage, the Aces could not overcome the Storm.
Seattle’s superior three-point shooting and ball security were decisive. The Storm won the turnover battle 15-10 and turned those into a 16-4 fast-break point edge, exploiting Las Vegas’ transition defense.
Las Vegas’ historic run may have bred complacency in the fourth quarter as the team relaxed with a lead. Back at home with a semifinal berth in reach, the Aces should respond with focus and intensity.
Las Vegas will likely learn from late-game issues and aim to deliver a complete effort, looking to finish the series in front of their home crowd.
