- What: NHL Eastern Conference Playoffs Semifinals Game 5
- When: May 15, 2025
- Who: Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals
- Time: 4:00 p.m. PST
- Where: Capital One Arena (Washington, DC)
The Carolina Hurricanes will face the Washington Capitals in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinals series on Thursday at 4 p.m. PST at Capital One Arena. The Hurricanes lead the series 3-1.
In Game 4, the Capitals lost 5-2, getting outshot 38-21 and only managing to score in the third period.
Defenseman Jakob Chychrun netted his third of the playoffs, and right winger Alex Ovechkin added a power-play goal.
Despite a strong penalty kill performance, Washington has struggled against Carolina, being outscored 9-2 in the previous two games.
Carolina has been dominant at home, scoring five goals highlighted by Shane Gostisbehere, Seth Jarvis, Taylor Hall, Sean Walker, and Andrei Svechnikov.
Goaltender Frederik Andersen was solid, stopping 19 of 21 shots, and has a strong playoff record against the Capitals.
Logan Thompson will start for the Capitals, having faced difficulties in his previous games against Carolina.
The Capitals, facing elimination, need to enhance their forecheck and get more offensive support beyond Ovechkin and Tom Wilson.
This is especially true since they’ve shown resilience this season with 25 comeback wins and a solid home playoff record of 4-1.
I’ll take the Capitals to win this one on the money line at plus money odds.
