The Edmonton Oilers will play the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5 of their best-of-seven series in the Western Conference semifinals of the NHL Playoffs on Wednesday.
The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. PST at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Trailing 3-1 in the series, the Golden Knights must secure three consecutive victories to advance to the Conference Final. On Wednesday night, they need to deliver their strongest performance yet.
While Vegas has struggled in three out of the four games so far, they’ve shown significant improvement when playing at home.
They achieved a 58.1% expected goals-for rate in Game 2 and had a 19-14 advantage in high-danger chances against the Oilers.
They were even in the lead going into the third period of the series opener before succumbing to Edmonton’s intense offensive pressure.
On the other hand, the Oilers’ scoring prowess may be due for a regression. In their last five games, they’ve posted a shooting percentage of 14.6%, raising their overall postseason average to 10.7%.
This recent performance is almost double their regular season average of 8.0%, suggesting their playoff figures are not entirely sustainable.
As the series progresses, a drop in goals could complicate the Oilers’ attempt to eliminate the Golden Knights on their home turf.
Vegas is poised to come out strong and will have the last line change to its advantage in this critical Game 5. Winning close out games is difficult in playoff series, its even more difficult on the road.
