- What: NHL Eastern Conference Playoffs Semifinals Game 2
- When: May 8, 2025
- Who: Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals
- Time: 4:00 p.m. PST
- Where: Capital One Arena (Washington, D.C.)
The Carolina Hurricanes will take on the Washington Capitals in Game 2 of their best-of-7 Eastern Conference semifinals series on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET at Capital One Arena. The Hurricanes lead the series 1-0.
In Game 1, the Hurricanes outshot the Capitals 33-14 but won 2-1 in overtime after defenseman Jaccob Slavin scored the game-winner. Logan Stankoven tied the game late, taking advantage of a turnover.
The Capitals must recover from the heartbreaking loss at home. Aliaksei Protas scored first in the second period but failed to extend the lead or convert on two power plays. Alex Ovechkin only managed one shot on goal.
Frederik Andersen (4-1-0, 1.45 GAA) will face Logan Thompson (4-2-0, 2.17 GAA). Andersen’s solid performance in Game 1 included 13 saves, and he holds a strong playoff record against the Capitals.
Thompson stopped 31 of 33 shots in his Game 1 effort. He has faced the Hurricanes three times and has lost each matchup.
Game 2 is crucial for the Capitals, who must utilize their home advantage and improve their power-play efficiency. Carolina has not allowed a power-play goal yet, while Washington is converting only 20% of their chances.
The Capitals must play well to take control of the game. I expect them to bounce back and earn a win on Thursday night. These are tremendous odds on the Capitals at home, take them to even this series up at +140.
