The Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils meet in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference first-round series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. PST.
The Hurricanes lead the series 2-1 but lost Game 3 in double overtime, 3-2, struggling on the road.
Carolina fell behind 2-0 with goals from the Devils’ Nico Hischier and Dawson Mercer before Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho tied it up with power-play goals.
However, Devils defenseman Simon Nemec scored the game-winner in the second overtime.
The Hurricanes’ regular-season road record is 16-21-4. They are 0-1 in the playoffs away from home and have a poor playoff road record of 5-14 over their last 19 games.
Frederik Andersen, 35, made 34 saves in the Game 3 loss in New Jersey, allowing 3 goals. However, he has struggled recently, going 0-3-1 in his last four road starts since April 5, with a total of 19 goals conceded.
On the other hand, Jacob Markstrom allowed just 2 goals on 27 shots in Game 3 and now holds a 1-2-0 record with a 2.08 GAA and .929 SV% in this series, playing a key role for the Devils.
The Hurricanes have won two of their last three games and scored nine goals in that span while converting 30 percent of their power plays.
In contrast, the Devils have lost three of their last four games, giving up at least three goals in four of five, and scored only five goals in the series without converting a single power play opportunity.
With the Hurricanes excelling defensively and leading in penalty kills, they should keep New Jersey’s offense contained. I like the Hurricanes to win this one, but am not a fan of the money line price of -180, so I’m targeting the 3-way market instead.
The Hurricanes should take a decisive 3-1 series lead over the Devils after this game.
Best Bet: Hurricanes to win in regulation at -110 odds
