The Las Vegas Raiders continue to search for stability at the quarterback position.
Trading for Geno Smith earlier this offseason helped significantly, but the Raiders still seek a long-term solution. Despite the team reportedly aiming for an extension with Smith, there has been nothing but crickets on that front for a while now. Even if a deal is reached, however, it would still be prudent for the Raiders to find a rookie option to develop.
To that end, the Raiders have linked themselves to virtually every major quarterback prospect, and another option is emerging.
The Raiders are scheduled to visit with a top quarterback prospect next month.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Raiders are scheduled to meet twice with Texas’s Quinn Ewers, at the university’s Pro Day on Tuesday and with one of the team’s top-30 visits early in April.
“Just as newsworthy is what’s happening around Ewers’s pro day,” said Breer. “The plan is for him to meet with the Jets and Las Vegas Raiders today and have dinner with the New Orleans Saints brass tonight, with all three teams expected to send big crews to Austin. He’s already has 30 visits set up with the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts and Raiders for early April.”
The Raiders’ interest in Ewers is nothing new, but rather the latest instance of the team potentially looking to draft the quarterback.
At the NFL Combine in February, Ewers was among several quarterbacks the Raiders spoke to and watched work out. Ewers, along with Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, were among the quarterbacks the Raiders reportedly came away the most impressed with. While Smith eliminated the possibility of the Raiders drafting a first-round quarterback, Ewers stands out as a potential Day Two pick for Las Vegas.
An impressive Pro Day could be enough to seal the deal for Ewers to become a Raider in 2025.
