The Las Vegas Raiders find themselves looking at a favorable setup for the 2025 draft.
While most mock drafts have them selecting Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty with the sixth overall pick, the Raiders do not have to draft simply off of need. If the best player available is someone different from Jeanty and the value is right, the Raiders will have no issue selecting them instead. This type of thinking lead to the team drafting Brock Bowers last season, and that decision paid off in spades with a generational rookie season.
While former general manager Tom Telesco made the Bowers selection, new GM John Spytek appears to be keeping that same philosophy in mind.
The Raiders have reportedly brought in two high-end cornerback prospects for top-30 visits.
According to Justin Churchill of A to Z Sports, the Raiders are bringing in Michigan’s Will Johnson and Notre Dame’s Benjamin Morrison for two of the Raiders’ top-30 visits.
Johnson has been on the radar of several teams dating back to last offseason, emerging as a shutdown cornerback prospect destined to go in the top ten picks. He is unquestionably the second-best cornerback in the class behind Colorado’s Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, so it makes sense the Raiders want to take a look at him. Johnson would instantly become the top cornerback the Raiders have, providing a similar homegrown option that the rest of their AFC West foes currently have.
Morrison, on the other hand, is somewhat of a wild card. Despite coming in with similar hype to Johnson, Morrison endured a down year for the Fighting Irish before a hip injury unceremoniously ended his 2024 season. The unfortunate timing of the injury has caused his stock to drop, potentially meaning he is up for grabs for the Raiders in the second round if they wish to fill another need first.
The Raiders want to come into this draft fully prepared, and scouting top options at another position of need gives the team some insight on what they are looking for.
