Will the Las Vegas Aces be able to recapture their championship ways?
After securing their first championship, the New York Liberty started as +200 favorites to repeat in 2025.
Minnesota, with odds of +350, continues to be one of New York’s main competitors. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Aces are standing at +220 to secure their third championship in four years, following victories in 2022 and 2023.
Let’s examine some of the leading contender’s chances.
New York Liberty
Two years after reaching the WNBA Finals and falling short against the Aces, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu have led the Liberty to their first WNBA championship in New York.
The team looks well-equipped to defend their title, boasting what many consider the league’s most formidable one-two punch.
In addition, the return of Jonquel Jones and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton provides the Liberty with solid third and fourth scoring options, enhancing their overall depth.
Las Vegas Aces
Although the Aces didn’t achieve a three-peat after their semifinal defeat to the Liberty, they still have the league’s top player, A’ja Wilson.
Coming off her third MVP award, she has gained an exciting new teammate through a major trade.
In a three-team deal, longtime Aces player Kelsey Plum was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks, allowing Seattle Storm All-Star Jewell Loyd to join the Las Vegas roster.
As a six-time All-Star and one of the league’s leading scorers, Loyd adds a formidable presence to the Aces, forming a dynamic trio with Wilson and Jackie Young.
Minnesota Lynx
The 2024 Minnesota Lynx demonstrated that their collective strength surpassed individual efforts, with Courtney Williams, Alanna Smith, and Bridget Carleton each enjoying the finest seasons of their careers.
Meanwhile, seasoned players Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride also excelled. As the Lynx head into free agency, they face no major departures, which should further strengthen their continuity and familiarity with one another.
The Lynx are priced at +350 to win the title, an implied probability of 22.2%.
Indiana Fever
Clark certainly lived up to the excitement surrounding her as a rookie, leading Indiana to the playoffs.
However, I don’t think wagering on the Fever at these odds is wise, especially considering how strong the Liberty, Aces, and Lynx are in comparison. A more strategic bet would be on Clark to capture the MVP award.
I can see Indiana making strides after finishing 20-20 last season, and hiring Stephanie White as head coach was a wise decision.
Still, the team is likely a year or two away from truly competing with the league’s top three teams. On the positive side, re-signing Kelsey Mitchell was a significant move for the front office.
At +400 odds to win the title, they Fever have an implied probability of 20%.
Best Bet
Will teaming up with A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray help Jewell Loyd turn things around for the Las Vegas Aces?
Betting odds suggest that could be the case, and it’s worth noting that Loyd is skilled at getting to the free-throw line, averaging 7.5 attempts per game in the 2023 season and 6.8 the previous year.
She will definitely add a different element than Kelsey Plum did to the offense. Although the Aces look like they have improved, I would need to see how they look on the court before I am able to wager on them to win another title.
Instead I would bet on the Lynx at +350 to finally get it done.
Best Bet: Minnesota Lynx to win the 2025 Championship at +350 odds
