With the new league year days away from kicking off, the Las Vegas Raiders are dealing with a constant swirling of rumors.
Some of these, such as former Raiders receiver Hunter Renfrow‘s retirement, was emphatically debunked. However, some hold a little more credence than others, requiring fans and analysts to look closely and see if they can catch any ulterior motive behind the move. The Raiders have struck out twice on rumors of Ben Johnson and Matthew Stafford, but that does nothing to make those on others stop.
The latest batch of offseason rumors regarding the Raiders, however, should not be surprising at all.
The Raiders are connected to plenty of pieces from head coach Pete Carroll’s former team.
The Seattle Seahawks have found themselves in a tricky situation this offseason, and they are clearly struggling to navigate through it.
Having to be cap compliant before the league year begins on March 12, the Seahawks have made several roster cuts in order to save money. This includes wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who was drafted by the team during the Carroll era and stayed in Seattle for ten seasons. On top of all of that, fellow wide receiver D.K. Metcalf has requested a trade, and the Seahawks now are staring at a rebuild on the offensive side of the ball.
Unsurprisingly, Carroll’s new team in the Raiders is doing their due diligence with many of their first-year head coach’s former players.
ESPN’s Brady Henderson has already said the Raiders are one of the teams in contact with the Seahawks about Metcalf, making them a potential trade destination. While the asking price of the Seahawks of first and third-round picks for Metcalf is steep, the Raiders have at least some interest in the move. As far as Lockett is concerned, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo said the Raiders are a certainty to pursue the veteran in free agency.
Good stuff here from @MikeGarafolo where he said:
– Raiders, Panthers, Packers are in on DK
– Tyler Lockett to the Raiders is a sure thing
– At least one team has called about Geno Smith’s availability https://t.co/7gnedss5Ym

With quarterback Geno Smith joining the Raiders via trade on Friday, the Las Vegas Seahawks jokes would only become more prevalent than they already are.
Smith has enjoyed a career renaissance with the Seahawks, so reuniting him with receivers he already has familiarity with makes sense. There are sticking points to both receivers joining the Raiders, with Lockett’s possible decline and whether the team wants to meet the Seahawks’ asking price on Metcalf. However, with the Raiders already making a deal with a player Carrol is familiar with already, it would not be a surprise for them to go back to the well.
It makes sense for Carroll to want to bring players familiar with his philosophy into his latest venture with the Raiders, and all the signs point to at least one of these talents heading to Las Vegas.
