Canelo Alvarez and Jake Paul are in the process of finalizing a deal for a May 3 cruiserweight fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, sources told ESPN on Thursday. The fight would be contested at the cruiserweight limit of 200 pounds, sources said, and was expected to be streamed on Netflix.
This fight is being made possible thanks to the Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez fight falling apart after being agreed on. But Canelo was already going to fight on May 3 as Crawford was planning on prepping his body for the increase in weight.

In Jake Paul’s last fight he competed against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in a heavyweight bout. Canelo fights are super middleweight which is the 168 pound weight limit. But he has competed at Light heavyweight before. So getting to 200 pounds shouldn’t be an issue.
The real face of boxing
What’s really intriguing about this fight is that it will feature the face of boxing. The face of boxing is not Canelo, like it or not it’s Jake Paul and this fight is validating that. That’s a hard pill to swallow for boxing fans but Jake Paul does numbers and when he fights everyone will be watching him. to the tune of 64 million streams on Netflix.
Manifestation at it’s finest
Jake Paul and Canelo have been going at it for years on social media about possibly fighting. Paul called him out again after his fight with Mike Tyson.
“Canelo needs me, so I’m not even going to try and call him out, “He knows he wants a payday. So, he knows where the money man is at”.
Hopefully Canelo and Terance Crawford can still be worked out. If so then this could be a blockbuster year for the sport that’s already starting out on a good note.
