Exciting news for UFC fans waiting on pins and needles to see a Tom Aspinall- Jon Jones matchup.
As reported by MMA on Si and YardBarker, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan heard a rumor that a numerical figure was being hinted at for the fight, which, would be contested for Jones’ heavyweight title.
Jon ‘Bones’ Jones recently defended his title in UFC 309 against Stipe Miocic.
Meanwhile, Aspinall has defended his UFC interim heavyweight title against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 last summer. During that time, Jones had a pectoral injury that kept him out of competition for almost a year.
On his podcast, Rogan said, “I think it’s gonna be Tom Aspinall,” Rogan said on his podcast. “I think they’re [the UFC] trying to come to some sort of an agreement. The rumor is that he [Jones] wants $30 million dollars, and the UFC is gotta pay it, hopefully.”
When asked, Aspinall has dropped hints about his hopes for the fight. As UFC CEO Dana White called it, “the biggest fight in UFC history” followed UFC Tampa.
Jones has been vocal about fighting Aspinall but with the proper financial compensation for doing so. Following UFC 309, Jones said, “If I give him [Aspinall] the opportunity to fight me, I want to be so compensated,”
Jones simply dubbed it “f*** you” money. Former UFC champion Conor McGregor has been one of only a few MMA starts to reach those heights.
It is unclear if Jones will retire from the sport and move on to another career or if he will continue to compete.
The negotiations are currently unclear, but all signs point to the fight this year in some form.
