The once great relationship between Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez had taken a messy turn for the worst when Alvarez sued De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions in 2020. Alvarez alleged that Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN breached their contract and sought out a minimum of $280 million in damages.
In May the two got into it at a prefight post conference between Canelo and Jaime Munguia. De La Hoya went off and then admitted “Yes, I’ve been to rehab several times,” he said. “Yes, there were some really low points in my life. And yes, there were times that work was not my priority based on my mental health, which I had neglected for so long. But that doesn’t change the fact that Golden Boy built Canelo over this period.”
Alvarez responded with an angry rant. “This idiot, this [guy] here to my left, try not to forget that I was already ‘Canelo’ when I came to the United States and that he only profited from my name.”He never lost a single cent, but instead made money. Have you already paid Golovkin what you wanted to steal from him?”
That exchange was probably the worst between the two over the years. But De La Hoya seemed to be in the Christmas spirit and decided to make a 12-days Christmas clapback video. During the video, he decided to take a shot at Mike Tyson’s cheeks and most notably Canelo. You can tell that De La Hoya is clearly in the holiday spirit.
