Mullen is a long-time SEC coach with plenty of head coaching experience, which is something UNLV Athletic Director Erick Harper wanted in his next coach. He last coached in the 2021 season, leading the Florida Gators to a 5-6 (2-6 SEC) before being fired.
Mullen went 34-15 in three seasons with the Gators. Prior to his time with Florida, he was the head coach at Mississippi State, compiling a 69-36 record with the Bulldogs.
He spent the past few seasons as an analyst for ESPN.
UNLV has not formally announced the hire.
