UNLV could be this year’s Cinderella in college football

If you have been a follower of the UNLV football program. You have never seen the program win anything. You’re not used to winning seasons, winning bowl games, you’re not used to any type of success. But with the appearance of head coach Barry Odom, expectations changed and it changed for the better.

UNLV sits at 10-2 which is their best record by far. Their only two losses came to Syracuse and Boise State by a combined eight points.  Many feel that UNLV should still be undefeated. A lot of people thought that UNLV’s playoff hopes were done after their close loss to Boise and Heisman Trophy hopeful Aston Jeanty, but the Rebels needed Boise to continue to run the table for their playoff hopes to remain intact.

Boise State remaining hot and undefeated is huge for UNLV’s playoff chances. The Broncos’ only loss was to No. 1 Oregon and with them being a top 10 team and currently sitting as a top-four team in the College Football Playoff, they are guaranteed a first-round bye with a win. Without a doubt, UNLV defeating Boise State at their house will leapfrog the Rebels into the playoffs. Both teams staying hot has ensured that the Mountain West will have a playoff representative.

There was always a way

Two months later, the rematch that everyone in Vegas has been waiting for is about to happen and the winner of this game will earn a berth to the College Football Playoff.  Star wide receiver Ricky White III is excited to go on the road and continue  UNLV’s undefeated streak away from. White spoke to reporters at the team’s press conference about their focus on playing with a business-as-usual-like mentality.

“Knowing we’re going into an away game, a different environment that’s not going to be at home, so we have everybody against us,” White said. “I feel like we’ve done a good job of taking that on as a team. We feed off that energy,” he said.

The weather is going to be cold, temperatures are expected to be in the 20s at kickoff. If the Rebels want their revenge, they have the perfect chance to write the ultimate Cinderella story with a win tonight. Tonight is by far the biggest night ever for UNLV football, history has a chance to be made.
