Raiders turn to former head coaches for help

Kirby Lee - USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders announced changes to the offensive coaching staff.

The team named Scott Turner as the Interim Offensive Coordinator, Joe Philbin as the Interim Offensive Line Coach, and Norv Turner as a Senior Advisor for the coaching staff.

Scott Turner previously was the Pass Game Coordinator for the Raiders. He joined the Raiders in the 2023 season after a stint as the Washington Commanders offensive coordinator. Scott Turner replaces Luke Getsy, who was fired Sunday evening.

Philbin entered the season as the Senior Offensive Assistant to the Raiders. He owns nearly 40 years of coaching experience and serve as the Miami Dolphins head coach from 2012-15. Philbin spent most of his career coaching offensive lines.

Norv Turner comes out of retirement to assist the coaching staff. He acted as head coach of the Raiders from 2004-05.

The arrival of Norv Turner and the switch to his son, Scott, as the offensive coordinator dictate the Raiders are looking to spark its offense. The team is ranked among the bottom of the league in total yards (28th) and total points (25th).

They are on a bye this week, meaning the coaches will have a week to figure out how to coach the team’s offense effectively. The Raiders play the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 17 in Miami.
