Las Vegas Aces

Aces vs Sparks Preview

© Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

On Saturday, the Las Vegas Aces will face off against the Los Angeles Sparks in a rivalry matchup in Michelob ULTRA Arena. The game will be televised on ABC starting at 12pm.

The Las Vegas Aces (1-0) are the reigning WNBA champions while the Los Angeles Sparks (0-1) had a season in 2023 filled with losing. Both teams after their first game of the season seem like their on similar paths as they were on previously.

A familiar face will be participating for the opposing squad as former Ace, Dearica Hamby is now a member of the Sparks. Hamby is the league leader in rebounds after her first game with 14 against the Seattle Storm.

Keys to Watch in Game

Forward,  A’Ja Wilson is coming off an amazing performance where she notched 30 points and 13 rebounds. She was a force to be reckoned with in the paint as she also forced three blocked shots in this game.

Chelsea Gray, point guard for the Aces still seems to be suffering from her foot injury from the postseason. Her absence still allowed for a win last game, but the Los Angeles Sparks could be a different result.

Cameron Brink was the number two pick in the 2024 draft and could cause problems in the paint with her length. Her along with Azura Stevens pose as defensive anchors who are both taller than the Aces tallest player.

Aces guard, Kelsey Plum will look to have a better performance as she has struggled shooting in her past two outings. Against the Mercury on Tuesday, she shot 8-for-20 (40%) and only scored seven points in the sole preseason game.

Saturday will either increase the winning streak of the Aces or be the first win for the Sparks.
