Carlos Ulberg Undergoes Knee Surgery Days After UFC 327 Knockout

It’s been a whirlwind week for Carlos Ulberg. He has a new belt that came with a scar to prove it. Just five days after capturing the UFC light heavyweight title with a stunning knockout victory over Jiri Prochazka at UFC 327, Ulberg revealed he has already undergone knee surgery adding an unexpected twist to his championship reign.

From Championship Glory to Surgery

Ulberg (14-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) took to social media Thursday, posting an image from a hospital bed with the caption: “knee surgery done.”

The timing raised eyebrows. Just hours earlier, Ulberg shared a photo from Harry Reid International Airport, strongly suggesting the procedure took place in Las Vegas shortly after returning from fight week. The extent of the injury remains unclear, as does the timeline for recovery.

What makes the story even more remarkable is when the injury occurred. Ulberg reportedly damaged his knee during one of the opening exchanges of the main event at Miami’s Kaseya Center yet still found a way to finish Prochazka in emphatic fashion. It was a championship performance defined by grit and composure under adversity.

The aftermath of the fight has been just as intense outside the cage. Prochazka (32-6-1 MMA, 6-3 UFC) claimed he showed restraint after recognizing Ulberg was injured a comment that didn’t sit well with the new champion.

Ulberg quickly fired back, dismissing the notion and verbally unloading on his former opponent in the days following the fight. The tension has added fuel to what could become one of the UFC’s next major rivalries.

What’s Next for the Division?

The light heavyweight division suddenly finds itself in a holding pattern. Ulberg sits atop the throne, but his availability remains uncertain. Meanwhile, contenders will be watching closely as the UFC evaluates its next move.

One thing is certain: Ulberg’s reign has already taken a dramatic turn and it’s only just begun.
