Pure Defensive Menaces
UNLV forced 14 turnovers and held Boise State to just six, setting the tone on defense from the start. The Lady Rebels delivered their best defensive quarter in the first, limiting the Broncos to 8 points. By halftime, UNLV had built a 35-18 lead. Boise State’s leading scorer was forward Libby Hutton with 12 points.
Shelbee Brown took over for UNLV. The forward finished with 22 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists while shooting 58.3 percent from the field. It marked her eighth double-double of the season and her highest-scoring double-double, topping her 21-point, 21-rebound game Feb. 7 against Utah State. She capped the week by earning Mountain West Player of the Week, joining UNLV men’s standout Dra Gibb-Lawhorn as a multiple-time honoree this season.
With the win, UNLV improved to 15-5 in conference play and 20-10 overall, holding the No. 2 spot in the Mountain West standings. Next up is the Mountain West tournament, with UNLV’s March 8 matchup still to be determined. No matter the opponent, the Lady Rebels will look to carry this momentum into the postseason.
