Circa Las Vegas will put an A’s legend on the mound to kick off baseball’s biggest day.
The resort announced Hall of Famer Dave Stewart will throw the ceremonial first pitch at its fourth annual Take Me Out to Vegas event at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, March 26 at Circa Sports. The celebration is built around MLB Opening Day, with Circa again leaning into the A’s ahead of their planned move to Las Vegas in 2028.
“Opening day this year marks an important milestone for Las Vegas baseball fans,” Circa CEO Derek Stevens said in a statement. “It’s a chance to celebrate the pending arrival of the A’s, enjoy the game together and feel the energy building as the team becomes part of the city’s sports landscape.”
The A’s will have a presence beyond Stewart, too. Team president Marc Badain and public address announcer Amelia Schimmel are scheduled to attend, and the club will provide a limited number of fan giveaways.
Smoke on the hill
Stewart, nicknamed “Smoke,” spent 16 seasons in the majors and authored his best run in Oakland. He finished his career 168-129 with a 3.95 ERA across 523 games, logging 2,629.2 innings and 1,741 strikeouts.
He also delivered on the biggest stages. Stewart won three World Series titles and was World Series MVP for the A’s in 1989. Oakland later retired his No. 34 in 2022, cementing his place in franchise history.
Fremont Street’s baseball living room
Circa’s pitch is simple: bring Opening Day downtown and make it loud.
The event will run inside the three-story sportsbook, centered on its massive 78-million-pixel screen, with games rolling all day. Fans can expect classic ballpark bites, including American Coney Island coney dogs and complimentary apple pie. Moms also receive complimentary drinks.
And yes, the timing is classic Vegas. The party is Thursday, while the A’s open the regular season Friday, March 27 at Toronto.
