Aces snap a three-game win streak with 80-70 loss

The Las Vegas Aces (12-12) hit the road to hunt for a third straight win against the Indiana Fever (13-12).

Las Vegas came out early in the first quarter with a quiet lead, 2-0. Chelsea Gray connected with Kierstan Bell in the inside to pull the Aces to within four of the Fever with 1:56 left in the quarter. The Aces closed out the first quarter tied with the Fever, 18-18.

Jackie Young led the Aces with 13 points, as A’ja Wilson tallied up 12 points, and Kierstan Bell added 4 before the end of the half.

Entering the second half, the Aces came out with a slight stumble. The Indiana Fever staged a comeback to take a with 2:46 left in the quarter. Kelsey Mitchell dropped a three-pointer to give the Fever a boost.

The Aces fought their back to close the gap in the fourth quarter, 75-70. Jackie Young went in for a layup off the glass, while Jewell Loyd pulled up with a mid-range jumper.

In the closing seconds, the Aces just couldn’t pull off the comeback to add to their win streak.

A’ja Wilson led the Aces with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Las Vegas went 40.3% from the floor and 13.3% from the three-point line.

In the loss, Aces coach Becky Hammon said, “It’s unfortunate. We definitely gave that one away. We have another game tomorrow.”

The Aces will have a quick turnaround game against Minnesota on Friday, July 25 at 4:30pm PT. This is the second back-to-back series of the season for the Aces this season.
