  • What: MLB Regular Season Game
  • When: July 1, 2025
  • Who:   Athletics vs. Tampa Bay Rays
  • Time:  4:05 p.m. PST
  • Where: George M. Steinbrenner Field (Tampa, FL)

The Athletics and Rays meet again Tuesday night after the A’s scored two runs in the 9th to win Monday’s game. With both teams using their top bullpen arms, that could be a factor if the game is close late.

The Tampa Bay Rays have excelled at home this season, holding a record above .500 and showcasing strong offensive stats. Gone are the days of low-scoring games in a pitcher-friendly Tropicana Field.

Last season, they ranked near the bottom in key offensive categories.

Still, thanks to a new hitter-friendly environment and emerging talents like Junior Caminero, Jonathan Aranda, and Josh Lowe, they rank 8th in batting average and 11th in wOBA at home.

Their offense has been elite recently, ranking 2nd in average and 3rd in wOBA over the past month. I expect this to continue against former Rays pitcher Jeffrey Springs, who has struggled on the road.

The Rays have also performed well against lefties, ranking 4th in OBP at home vs. left-handed pitchers in recent months. They should provide solid run support for Shane Baz, who posted a strong 3.26 ERA in June.

The Rays have been on a winning streak lately, closing in on the Yankees for the top spot in the division as the All-Star break approaches.

Pitching Matchup

The A’s are still struggling with pitching, but those issues aren’t primarily linked to Tuesday’s starter, Jeffrey Springs. I’m open to giving the A’s another shot on Tuesday, but I prefer betting the game total to exceed the current line.

The weather could affect the game, but if it holds off, we can expect hot and humid conditions in a hitter-friendly park, which typically leads to high scores.

Jeffrey Springs and Shane Baz are decent starters, but they’ll likely give up runs early. The A’s bullpen is the worst in the league, and the Rays had a tough outing on Monday.

I believe there will be plenty of scoring in this game, especially in the latter innings. I’m going with the over.
