The Athletics (32-49) face off against the Detroit Tigers (50-30) on Wednesday in the second game of their three-game series at 3:40 p.m. PST at Comerica Park.
The Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 9-3 win over the Rays and followed it up with an 11-4 victory against the A’s on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the A’s had a four-game winning streak earlier this month but have now lost three in a row, including two of three to the Guardians over the weekend.
Pitching Matchup
In the upcoming matchup, left-handed pitcher Jacob Lopez faces right-handed pitcher Jack Flaherty. Lopez is 1-4 with a 4.25 ERA in his seven starts.
In his last outing, he went six innings, allowing one earned run and striking out nine in a 6-4 win over the Astros. However, his road stats this season show a 1-2 record and a 6.92 ERA.
Flaherty, with a 5-8 record and a 4.83 ERA, makes his 16th start. In his most recent start, he allowed eight earned runs in just 2 1/3 innings during a loss to the Rays.
At home, he has been better, sporting a 3.74 ERA, but historically against the A’s, he is 1-2 with a 7.02 ERA.
The Tigers have struggled in Jack Flaherty’s recent appearances, allowing 14 runs to the Rays on June 20 and 11 runs to the Cincinnati Reds on June 14.
In his last six starts, Detroit has a record of 3-3 and holds a 6-6 record over their past twelve games.
On the other hand, the A’s have been impressive with Jacob Lopez on the mound, winning each of his last three starts by at least two runs and conceding only five runs during those games.
The A’s have gone 9-9 in their last 18 games, managing to maintain a .500 record in that stretch. Considering Lopez’s strong performance, it’s worth backing the A’s on the money line at +155.
