Shedeur Sanders continues to be at the forefront of draft rumors for the Las Vegas Raiders.

As the Raiders struggled through last season with inconsistent quarterback play, fans clamored for the Colorado quarterback to arrive as the franchise savior. However, the trade for Geno Smith and his subsequent contract extension reduced the immediate need for a starting quarterback. It appeared as though the dreams of Raiders fans wanting Sanders in silver and black were dashed.

However, the connection between Sanders and the Raiders is still going strong, especially with the latest update.

Sanders is still firmly on the Raiders’ radar coming into the draft.

According to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, Sanders is scheduled to visit with the Raiders early next week, marking their highest-profile prospect visit yet.

Sanders is the latest of a long list of quarterback prospects the Raiders are visiting coming into the draft.

On Wednesday, the Raiders visited with Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart, Texas’s Quinn Ewers and Ohio State’s Wil Howard. The team has already visited with Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and North Dakota State’s Cam Miller. The difference between Sanders and the others, however, is the Colorado product is widely considered to go in the first round, while the others will be available on Days Two and Three.

While Sanders would no longer be the immediate starting quarterback, the path to the Raiders is clearly not closed off yet. Giving him a couple of seasons with Smith serving as a mentor would ensure he has plenty of developmental runway before being pressed into action. The only question the Raiders would have to ask is if it is worth sacrificing immediate needs for a luxury at the game’s most important position.

The chances of Sanders heading to the Raiders are lesser than they were by season’s end, but they are not yet zero.
