Raiders to meet with fast-rising quarterback prospect

Despite signing Geno Smith to a two-year contract extension, the Las Vegas Raiders are still looking to add a quarterback through the draft.

While Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders seems like less of a possibility with the sixth overall pick, the Raiders have now looked at the depth options. The Raiders heavily scouted quarterbacks at the NFL Combine in February, and that process has continued up until the draft. Texas’s Quinn Ewers, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and North Dakota State’s Cam Miller are the quarterbacks reported to either have visited or scheduled a visit with the Raiders so far.

Another name has joined that list, and this one would undoubtedly require the most commitment from the Raiders.

A fast-rising quarterback prospect is scheduled to visit the Raiders this week.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart is scheduled to meet with the Raiders, just a day after reportedly meeting with the Cleveland Browns. Dart also has interest from the New York Giants, New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams.

Needless to say, Dart has attracted plenty of attention after a strong season in the SEC.

Transferring to Ole Miss, Dart put together a tremendous season for the Rebels in 2024. He threw for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns and only six interceptions in his lone season in Oxford, Mississippi. Showcasing serious arm talent, Dart has emerged as the clear best option behind Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward.

While there are questions about his skills translating to a pro-style offense, plenty of teams clearly see Dart as a viable option. Along with the other teams mentioned, the Raiders have a clear need for a long-term option under center. Giving Dart a couple seasons of development with Smith as a mentor is somewhat of a luxury idea, but general manager John Spytek could pursue that option to give himself a clear timeline to work with.

The Raiders would need to be aggressive if they wish to pursue Dart, but this meeting could tip the scales in his favor.
