The Colorado Avalanche will face the Vegas Golden Knights in a Western Conference matchup on Tuesday night. The Avs won their last home game against the Knights after an earlier 8-4 loss in their season opener.

The Golden Knights recently defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2, marking their second consecutive win. Victor Olofsson scored the game-winner late in the game, while Adin Hill made 21 saves, allowing two goals.

With Ilya Samsonov out, Akira Schmid may start in goal for Colorado. Vegas has an 8-2 record in their last ten games and is in third place in the Western Conference, four points ahead of the Avs.

Vegas is well-balanced, ranking sixth in the NHL with 3.34 goals per game and 2.64 goals against per game. Jack Eichel has 93 points this season but hasn’t scored in four games. Pavel Dorofeyev leads the Knights with 33 goals, and they’ve won their last five road games.

The Avalanche recently lost 5-4 to the St. Louis Blues, who have now won 12 straight games. Despite falling behind 4-0, Colorado scored four times, with Mackenzie Blackwood (28-19-6, 2.49 GAA) allowing four goals on 21 shots.

If he doesn’t start against the Golden Knights, Scott Wedgewood (12-6-2, 2.36 GAA) will replace him, having given up two goals in his last two games. Before this loss, the Avs had won two in a row and is 6-3-1 over their last ten.

During the season, the Avalanche ranked seventh in the NHL, averaging 3.36 goals per game, while allowing 2.80 goals per game, ranking 11th.

Nathan MacKinnon leads the league with 115 points (32 goals, 83 assists) and has scored in his last two games. Cale Maker has 91 points (30 goals, 61 assists) but didn’t score in the last game, though he did contribute an assist.

At home, the Avalanche are 25-11-3 but has lost their last two home games.

The Golden Knights and Avalanche have been among the best defensive teams since February.

Vegas leads the league in expected goals against per 60 minutes at 2.48, and Colorado is fifth at 2.63. The Golden Knights and Avalanche are in for a defensive slugfest tonight.

I’m taking under 6 goals for this upcoming matchup between the Golden Knights and the Avalanche.

Best Bet: Under 6 goals at -115 odds
