Raiders lose starting running back in unofficial swap

The Las Vegas Raiders and Miami Dolphins have swapped running backs, all without needing to conduct a trade.

Just hours after the Raiders signed Raheem Mostert on Thursday, the Dolphins have officially agreed to terms with Alexander Mattison, according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz.

Mattison brings starting experience to South Beach, but his lone season with the Raiders was anything but memorable.

Despite playing 14 games (seven starts) for the Raiders, Mattison turned 132 carries into only 420 yards and four touchdowns. The 3.2 yards per attempt is the lowest mark of the six-year veteran’s career, and played a role in the Raiders recording a league-low 79.8 rushing yards per game. With Ameer Abdullah and Sincere McCormick looking better, Mattison struggled to gain any traction once he lost the starting job.

With Mostert’s signing, the writing was on the wall for Mattison to go elsewhere. It just so happened to be to the old stomping grounds of the new Raiders running back.
