The Chicago Blackhawks will be facing off against the Vegas Golden Knights on the road this Thursday night.

Chicago

The Chicago Blackhawks faced the Golden Knights once this season and came away with a victory. It was one of their stronger offensive performances, as they scored five goals against Vegas.

While the Blackhawks don’t typically light up the scoreboard, they excelled in that matchup. Despite only registering 23 shots on goal, they found the net five times.

If Chicago can replicate that offensive success, they stand a good chance of winning on the road or at least covering the spread.

The Golden Knights have been playing reasonably well lately, but they’ve struggled offensively, scoring fewer than four goals in four of their last five games.

This season, their record when they score fewer than four goals stands at 13-18-5, accounting for 13 of their regulation losses and five of their six overtime defeats.

In contrast, Chicago has a record of 17-9-3 when they limit opponents to fewer than four goals, which includes all of their wins. The Blackhawks will have a solid opportunity to cover the spread if they can hold the Golden Knights to under four goals.

Vegas

In this matchup, Vegas should have no trouble finding the back of the net. The Blackhawks give up an average of 3.47 goals per game, ranking them third-worst in the NHL.

On top of that, they allow the third-highest number of shots against. Chicago has difficulty maintaining puck possession and doesn’t make it challenging for opponents to operate in the offensive zone. The Golden Knights need to capitalize on this opportunity.

When they score four or more goals this season, their record is an impressive 21-0-1.

I anticipate that the Golden Knights will hit that milestone on Thursday night, which could help them cover the spread.

Defensively, the Golden Knights are solid as well. They are currently allowing the seventh-fewest goals per game and rank third in shots allowed. Their defensive play is strong, effectively limiting other teams’ opportunities to shoot.

Moreover, the Blackhawks are one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league. Chicago frequently finds themselves outshot, as they lead the league in the fewest shots taken.

If the Golden Knights maintain their current performance, they should secure the win and cover the spread.

Blackhawks-Golden Knights Best Bet

I’m inclined to bet on the Over in this matchup, just like when these two teams faced off earlier this season, which also ended up going Over the total.

Chicago has surrendered 16 goals in their first three games but limited their opponents to just two in their most recent outing.

Vegas has a solid offensive lineup for this game, and given that they haven’t scored more than four goals in their last 19 contests, this could be the perfect opportunity for their offense to rejuvenate.

Although the Golden Knights conceded five goals in their last game, their defense should perform well here, with Samsonov set to guard the net.

With expectations for a high-scoring game in Las Vegas, I’m leaning toward the Over as the best bet.

Best Bet: Over 6 Goals at -105 odds.
