On Tuesday night, the Dallas Mavs will take on the Los Angeles Lakers in an exciting Western Conference clash at Crypto.com Arena.

Dallas is coming off a loss that ended their three-game winning streak, which had lasted since before the All-Star break.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are riding high with back-to-back victories and have won eight of their last ten games, boosting their confidence as they aim for a strong second half of the season.

In their previous encounter in January, Dallas secured a significant 21-point victory at home, and they’ll be looking to replicate that success in this road rematch.

With the recent mid-season trade, this matchup is sure to be intriguing.

Dallas

Dallas was unable to secure their fourth consecutive win, falling to Golden State with a final score of 126-102. Kyrie Irving led the Mavs with 17 points, matching P.J. Washington’s contribution of the same amount.

The team shot 46.3% from the field and connected on over 40% of their three-point attempts. Despite these statistics, they struggled on the boards and committed 18 turnovers. While Dwight Powell and Caleb Martin are listed as day-to-day, Anthony Davis is out.

As they head into their next game, Dallas has been averaging 115.2 points per game, placing them 10th in the league. They have been particularly effective in the paint, ranking in the top 10 with nearly 50 points per game in that area.

However, they are currently in the bottom five for assist-to-field goal ratio, despite holding a top-10 spot for effective field goal percentage and ranking 6th in three-point shooting.

The Mavs have shown strong performances in the first half of games, but they tend to start the second half slowly, which can often lead to relinquishing large leads.

Their offensive rebounding has helped mitigate some issues, but the high turnover rate frequently leads to stalled possessions and disrupts their rhythm.

Defensively, Dallas is allowing 111.8 points per game, placing them 14th in the league.

The Mavs have faced challenges in stopping opponents in the paint, giving up nearly 50 points per game, ranking them in the bottom 10 for paint defense.

However, they are 6th in opponent effective field goal percentage and among the top five in opposing two-point shooting. The defense has often been slow to react, leading to fouls and an increase in free-throw opportunities for opponents.

To add to their struggles, the Mavs have had difficulty closing out possessions, which has resulted in surrendering a significant number of second-chance points.

Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Lakers secured a convincing 123-100 victory over the Nuggets on their home turf. Luka Doncic led the charge with 32 points, while LeBron James contributed 25.

The bench managed to add 18 points. The Lakers displayed an impressive shooting accuracy of 50.5% from the field and scored 33 points on fast breaks.

Although they were out-rebounded, they excelled in the paint, finishing with a +22 advantage in that area.

As they head into the next game, Los Angeles is averaging 111.5 points per game, placing them 17th in the league. Their strong presence in the paint has allowed them to rank 10th in points scored in that area per game.

However, their 3-point shooting has been less effective, positioning them in the bottom third of the league.

On a positive note, they rank in the top 10 for free-throw attempts per game, indicating their ability to draw fouls. The offense thrives when they can run, showcasing one of the league’s most efficient transition games.

Nonetheless, they have had trouble securing offensive rebounds, ranking in the bottom five for that statistic.

Defensively, the Lakers concede 112.7 points per game, putting them at 15th overall. They have faced challenges in perimeter defense, allowing opponents to hit 36.5% of their 3-point attempts.

Inside, they have also struggled, giving up over 52 points in the paint on average, which ranks them in the bottom five.

Their rebounding efforts have been inconsistent, and they sit around the league average for second-chance points allowed. Furthermore, they have difficulties forcing turnovers, currently ranking 21st in opponent turnover rate.

For the Lakers to strengthen their position in the Pacific standings, improving their defensive rotations and finishing possessions will be crucial.

Mavs-Lakers Best Bet

Although neither team is known for a fast tempo, both are ranked in the top five for free-throw rate and among the top ten for effective field goal percentage.

Recently, the Lakers have been more successful in scoring in the paint, and they excel in transition when they create turnovers.

Additionally, Dallas ranks seventh in three-point shooting, while their defense struggles to finish possessions, allowing the lowest rate in the league.

Anticipate a high-scoring game here between the Mavs and the Lakers. Take the over.

Best Bet: Over 230.5 points at -115 odds.
