The UNLV Lady Rebels, led by Kiara Jackson, came out firing on all cylinders as they claimed a 75-65 victory over San Diego State on Wednesday night at the Cox Pavillion.
Jackson led the Lady Rebels, scoring a career-high 27 points to secure the win.
She scored 17 after the first half. Jackson went 6-for-12 from the floor, 4-for-6 from the 3-point line, and 1-for-1 from the free-throw line. She also dished out nine assists for the game.
McKinna Brackens added 13 points, going 6-for-9 from the floor, and made one 3-pointer.
Amarachi Kimpson also came up in double-digits, scoring 12 points, going 4-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
San Diego State was led by Veronica Sheffey, scoring 20 points, then Kim Villalobos, scoring 17 points.
Cali Clark was the leading rebounder for the Aztecs, grabbing seven rebounds for the game.
The Aztecs started the game on fire, but the Lady Rebels returned with an answer, scoring seven straight points.
Both teams went back and forth before the Lady Rebels took the upper hand and scored five straight points to go up by double-digits to bring the score to 26-16.
In the second half, the Lady Rebels could go up by nine to close the gap to 40-35 with 1:09 left to go before the end of the half.
After the half, it became a shootout between the two teams again before San Diego State went on a 12-point run to close the gap by five, 59-54.
The Lady Rebels could go back up by nine, 66-57.
The Aztecs hit a last-second shot with 0:35 left in the game to make it 75-65.
The Lady Rebels were able to hold on for the win.
Lady Rebels will go on the road to take on UNR at 1 p.m on Saturday. This game is a part of the Silver State Series hosted by America First.
