Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) and Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) have agreed to put their legal battles aside and will give boxing fans a much anticipated rematch later in the year for 2025. Both fighters have agreed to VADA drug testing leading up to the fight. This fight could be taking place at 147 but that hasn’t been made offical yet.

Haney filed a lawsuit against Garcia in September in U.S. District Court in New York seeking damages for battery, fraud and breach of contract in connection with Garcia’s doping violation after their April title fight in Brooklyn.
Some people believe that Haney’s legal action was due to him feeling embarrassed and wanting to validate that Garcia couldn’t beat him on a level playing field. That’s very apparent by the statement made in the lawsuit.
“While Devin Haney agreed to participate in a prize fight against Garcia, at no time did he agree to engage in a bout against an individual who had taken a performance-enhancing drug,” the lawsuit stated.
Garcia intentionally missed weight and was also busted for PED’s. That’s two violations in one fight which is unfortunate for him because he put on one of the best performances of any boxer in 2024.
Garcia coming in at 143.2 which was 3 pounds over the 140 pound limit. That was definitely an intentional and unprofessional act. But he made a choice to not become weight drained and not make the weight which turned out to be a big advantage for him.
Garcia’s opportunity
Garcia’s upset over Haney was definitely one of the most shocking events in boxing. Knocking Haney down 3 times had boxing fans in shock. But in all reality you shouldn’t be shocked. When it comes to power, Garcia is one of the hardest hitters in boxing.
Fans are constantly upset with Garcia because they feel like he doesn’t take his craft as seriously. Everyone wants to see him put it all together and they thought that he did when he dominated Hanley in their fight.
This rematch will prove if Garcia is indeed the better fighter. Or Hanley isn’t overrated and is actually amongst the top guys at 140-147. Hanley is really going to have to rebound. Putting on a good performance is mandatory because he received a lot of backlash from this fight.
Boxing fans think that he doesn’t have enough power at 140-147. Fans don’t think he’ll be able to dominate the division like he did at 135. Time will tell but at least boxing fans will be able to get one of the most anticipated rematches in 2025.
