Three Takeaways from Dern vs. Ribas 2

The UFC held their first Fight Night of 2025 took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Mackenzie Dern (15-5) exacted revenge on Amanda Ribas (12-6 MMA) by a winning via armbar submission in the closing seconds of the third round.

Looking for Revenge

This was the second meeting between the two fighters.

A reported by YardBarker and Field Level Media, Back in October 2019, Amanda Ribas laid Mackenzie Dern down and exposed all of her limitations. Dern showed her that she worked hard in the five years since the first meeting. Dern was successful to set the tone for the fight by striking Ribas first, then landing to a great takedown.

Reverse

Dern and Ribas went pound for pound.

Dern wrestled Ribas to the ground and gained top position to take the advantage in the third round.

Ribas made one wrong move, and Dern took advantage of it to close the bout.

Major Improvement

This was by far Dern’s best showing.

She has only had five fights and is still fairly new to the UFC at the age of 31.

Dern is now tied with the second-most wins in the division’s history with 10.

In a post-fight press conference, Dern expressed that she wasn’t in a hurry for a title fight.

Dern wants to continue to be active and has no preference in who her next opponent is.

“I’m happy to get that (Ribas) win off my back and get two wins in a row,” Dern said,

Dern could work her way into being a top strawweight contender this year.
