According to TMZ.com, sixth-ranked UFC Welterweight Colby Covington was interviewed before his welterweight bout with Joaquin Buckley.
In the interview, Covington expressed his admiration for the soon-to-be 47th President, Donald Trump and he had a word for naysayers who have had choice words about his fighting career.
Covington said, “I’m super excited. I’ve been hearing some of the chatter, people saying that ‘Chaos’ is dead. They have no idea what’s coming Saturday night. I’m going to put on the best performance in my career.”
He continued, “I’m super inspired by Donald Trump taking back the White House and his work ethic. I mean, he’s in three different states a day. Guy doesn’t sleep. So Saturday night, I’m going to make the UFC ‘Great Again’ and January 20th, when Donald Trump gets inaugurated, he’s going to make America great again.”
It is also reported by mmajunkie.usatoday.com that Covington has a Donald Trump chain that he kissed during his arrival to UFC Tampa. He specifically kissed the medallion on the lips. Maybe it was a weird good luck charm for his fight against Buckley, who knows.
In the end, however, it didn’t work as Covington was beaten by Buckley Saturday night.
